Some years ago, my daughter and her partner were on holiday in Queensland, Australia when they saw a sign to Loudoun Museum. They followed the trail to the town of Irvinebank and when they entered the museum, a picture of Ranoldcoup Road Bridge faced them.


John Moffat, born 1841 in Newmilns had emigrated to Australia eventually becoming a mining entrepreneur and renamed the town of Gibbs Camp to Irvinebank. The name change and the picture of Ranoldcoup Road Bridge were reminders of home.
