The first photo competition held by the Darvel Dawn to Dusk Project was held on Sat 29th June. On this day (and on the few very sunny days previous) the people of Darvel took photographs of everyday events, country scenes and activities including the Community Action Plan, Family Fun Day, Sports Darvel Showcase and the Darvel Juniors Open Training Day.
357 excellent photos were submitted to the project within the competition time period. They included excellent images of families enjoying the environment, people working, sunset scenes, animals (wild and farm), groups and sporting activities. A big thank you to everyone who participated.
A group of judges met on Tue 23rd July and reviewed every photo submitted. They were looking for a images that were well composed and captured some elements of Darvel the town and community. This was no easy task as there were many great photos taken.
88 photos were selected for potential future projects including a planned exhibition, calendar and booklet. These can be seen on our D2D Gallery Summer 2019.
9 photos were taken forward for final selection from which the top three were selected. The winning photo is a shot of the church in Hastings Square as you look over Sir Alexander Fleming’s shoulder. The image is well composed, includes two Darvel icons and is in the heart of the town. Congratulations to Raymie Swann.
The judges would also like to specially commend 2 other images. The first is a photo of a young family and their dog walking along a country path. The judges felt that this image captured the family friendly and safe nature of our town and community. Well done Gordon Shaw.
The second is a remarkable long-range shot looking down Darvel Main Street from the east and taken from the mast at Priestland. It shows an unusual view of the town and has very good clarity despite the murky weather conditions. Excellent work by Les Pittams.
The D2D Group continues to produce interesting and remarkable photos of Darvel and the surrounding area. You can see many of them on the D2D Social Media Page.
It is our intention to have seasonal competition with the next planned for Autumn 2019.
